RESPIRATORY PATHOGENS TEST
COVID-19 AND CO-INFECTION

Use molecular technology to differentiate the virus that causes COVID-19 from Flu and other respiratory viruses. Like other common respiratory tract infections, Influenza and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, share similar signs and symptoms. Additionally, co-infection with SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses, including influenza and RSV, has been described. It is estimated that SARS-CoV-2 co-infections may occur in 20.7% of patients.

The PLS Respiratory Pathogens Test is a highly specific and sensitive multiplex PCR for the nucleic acid detection of SARS-Cov-2, Influenza A, Influenza B, or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Using one nasal swab, our Respiratory Pathogens Test will help providers diagnose patients and give appropriate therapy options.

Solution

Get the right diagnosis and give the right treatment for better patient outcomes.

    • COVID-19

    • Influenza A

    • Influenza B

    • RSV

    • While rapid antigen tests may deliver results faster, molecular tests have significantly higher sensitivity and specificity

    • Single Swab – simple and easy collection

    • One nasal swab tests for COVID, Influenza A, Influenza B, and RSV

    • No out-of-pocket cost for most Medicare and Medicaid patients

Co-Infection Between SARS-CoV-2 and Other Respiratory Pathogens Occurs in 20.7% of Patients

A recent study shows that 20.7% of those who test positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, also test positive for other respiratory pathogens, including Influenza and RSV.*

Among patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, 5.2% also tested positive for RSV. Notably, the mean age of these patients is 52.3 years of age.*

pcr testing precision life sciences

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the most innovative testing method used by some of the best Pathology laboratories to make an extremely fast diagnosis from a sample your doctor has sent. Our clinical laboratory, Precision Life Sciences, has undergone the necessary credentialing and strict requirements to become CLIA-certified.

PCR will rapidly make millions to billions of copies of a specific DNA sample and then analyze the DNA to determine what bacteria or fungus is in the specimen. The specimens are obtained by a simple swab. This testing is far superior to older lab studies and produces results twice as fast, so clients can treat patients more accurately and quickly. This technology produces results in days compared to cultures, which can take several weeks for results. Medications prescribed will be tailored to PCR results which can improve safety and treatment.
